How the Implant Works

The device is surgically implanted within the corpora cavernosa of the penis. There are two main types:

Inflatable Penile Prosthesis:  produces a more natural erection that can be inflated and deflated as needed.

Malleable Penile Prosthesis:  a flexible rod implant that produces a permanently firm penis.

Both types are custom-fitted to the individual patient and allow a satisfactory erection for intercourse. Flexible rod (malleable) implants produce a permanently firm penis suited to men who prioritise simplicity and reliability, while the inflatable prosthesis is designed to feel and behave more like a natural erection, inflated when needed and deflated the rest of the time.

What Is Sex Like With a Penile Implant?

When inflated, the prosthesis makes the penis rigid and thick, closely resembling a natural erection. It does not change sensation or the ability to reach orgasm, and ejaculation is unaffected. Satisfaction rates are consistently high, with typically 80-90% of men reporting satisfaction with their results.
